How
to
train your spam filtering.
---------------------------------------------------------------
If
your spam control filters an email incorrectly you
can train the system to recognise the profile
of the emails you
need to receive and also ones that you do not.
1.
Spam that still gets through to you.
If
you receive a message in your e-mail application that was not
caught by the filter, please forward it to spam@spamcontroller.co.uk
(spam@mail4.host-it.co.uk
will also work) so that it can be analysed and trained
as SPAM. This will improve the filter's accuracy in the future.
2.
Genuine emails that are identified as spam.
The exact process depends on how you have
selected spam to be dealt with via the panel.
There
are three options.

-----------------
1)
Default method - Quarantine spam (recommended).
You will need to log into your account (then select
Quarantine from the menu) whilst it is training to
see if any genuine emails
have been
incorrectly
identified as spam. If you identify any you can select
the emails which will then be forwarded to you and
the system will learn from this correction. If
you are expecting an email that has not arrived
always log into spam control first. The sender may
be on a block list so the filtering is correctly quarantining
the email.
----------------- 2)
Method two - Tag the email and sent it to you.
This
is normally combined with inbox rules in your local
copy
of Outlook/Outlook express to filter emails into a
separate mail box so you still get everything it just
separates the genuine from the junk for you.
If
you receive a message in your e-mail application that was incorrectly
tagged by the filter and WAS NOT SPAM, please forward it to notspam@spamcontroller.co.uk*
so that it can be analysed and trained as NON-SPAM. This will
improve the filter's accuracy in the future.
----------------- 3) Method three - Add a header
Works
as above (so use the same procedure) but rather than
modifying the subject line to adds a header to the
email.
Note:
If you use outlook express you cannot create message rules based
on headers so do not select option 3 if you use Outlook Express.
